10 March 20267 min read

Renting a cabin in Bohuslan is, for many, the ultimate Swedish holiday. The sound of the sea, sun-warmed granite cliffs, fresh seafood and that special west coast atmosphere that's hard to describe but impossible to forget. But how do you find the cabin that's right for you? Here are our best tips — along with a look at our two cabins near Lysekil.

What to look for when choosing a cabin

Not all cabins in Bohuslan are created equal. The difference between a fantastic holiday and a forgettable one often comes down to details that don't show up in a quick search on a booking platform.

Location is everything

In Bohuslan, you want to be near the water — but that means different things to different people. Do you want cliffs and open sea within walking distance? Or do you prefer a sheltered bay with calm water? Proximity to a small town like Lysekil gives you access to restaurants, grocery shops and the fish harbour without sacrificing the peace and quiet.

The kitchen matters

A cabin with a proper kitchen transforms the holiday. When you can buy fresh fish in the morning and cook it for dinner in the evening — that's a real Bohuslan experience. Check that the kitchen has what you need: a large pot for shellfish, a decent cooker and enough plates if your group is large.

Outdoor space

In Bohuslan, you live outdoors — even in autumn. A barbecue area, a terrace or a hot tub makes a huge difference. And if the cabin has access to cliffs, a jetty or a path down to the water, you've hit the jackpot.

Our two cabins — a comparison

We have two unique cabins outside Lysekil, and they suit completely different types of holiday.

Vita Torpet — for couples and small families

Vita Torpet is a newly renovated cabin for up to four guests. Surrounded by a quiet garden and greenery, it's the place where you truly breathe out. The kitchen is fully equipped, the bedrooms are cosy and the whole place radiates calm.

This is the cabin for a romantic weekend, a writing retreat or simply a few days of total stillness. In the morning you drink coffee in the garden and in the evening you cook dinner with ingredients from the fish harbour.

Roda huset — for groups who want it all

Roda huset is something quite special. Room for up to 10 guests, an observation tower with panoramic views, a hot tub for relaxation and an outdoor barbecue area.

This is the cabin for family gatherings, friend groups or a birthday you want to remember. Everyone gathers in the spacious kitchen, the children explore the cliffs and in the evening you all sit in the hot tub under the stars.

Different types of stays

Romantic getaway (Vita Torpet)

Vita Torpet is perfect for two, with room for up to four if you're travelling with children or friends. Pick up oysters and champagne at Lysekil fish harbour, cook a luxurious dinner in the little kitchen and enjoy the silence together.

Family reunion (Roda huset)

With room for up to 10 people, Roda huset is perfect for a family gathering. The children love the cliffs and the observation tower, the adults appreciate the hot tub and the large kitchen. The outdoor barbecue area is the highlight.

Remote work retreat

Both cabins have wifi and quiet working environments. Stand by the window with your laptop in the morning, work focused until lunch and explore the coast in the afternoon. A week as a remote worker in Bohuslan is hard to beat.

Off-season adventure

October to March is Bohuslan's hidden gem. Lower prices, no crowds and a dramatic landscape that comes alive in storms and winter cold. Oyster safaris, winter hikes and evenings by the fireplace.

What is the difference between your two cabins?+

Vita Torpet is a newly renovated cabin for up to 4 guests with a quiet garden — perfect for couples and small families. Roda huset sleeps up to 10 guests and offers a hot tub, observation tower, outdoor barbecue area and sweeping views — perfect for families and groups.

Why is it cheaper to book direct?+

When you book through platforms like Airbnb, service fees of 10-15% are added to the total price. When you book directly with us, you avoid these fees. You also get access to our best dates first and more flexible booking terms.

When is the best time to book a cabin in Bohuslan?+

It depends on what you're looking for. July is peak season with the highest prices — book early. For the best value and most tranquillity, choose October to March. September is a fantastic shoulder season with the lobster premiere and beautiful autumn weather. Spring (April-May) offers lower prices and gorgeous nature.

How far in advance should I book?+

For July and Midsummer, we recommend booking 3-6 months ahead. During the off-season (October-March), you can often book at shorter notice, sometimes just a few weeks before. Book directly with us for the best availability.

Are the cabins suitable for children?+

Roda huset is excellent for families with plenty of space for up to 10 guests. Children love exploring the cliffs and the observation tower. Note that the cliffs require supervision with small children. Vita Torpet suits smaller families and groups, with room for up to 4 guests.
