Working at VAROPreem's Lysekil refinery? Our cottages in Lyse are at most a five-minute drive from Brofjorden. This guide covers what to arrange before the assignment: travel, parking, accommodation and daily life between shifts.

The refinery is at Brofjorden, north-west of central Lysekil. From the E6, take the exit towards Uddevalla and Lysekil, then follow signs for Brofjorden. Allow about 1 hour 30 minutes from Gothenburg and 5–6 hours from Stockholm. Follow your employer's and VAROPreem's instructions for site access and parking.
The drive from our cottages in Lyse to Brofjorden takes at most five minutes. There is no direct bus between Lyse and the refinery, so driving or sharing a car is the simplest option. Tell us how many vehicles you have when enquiring, and we will confirm parking space.
Shift patterns vary by role and project. During planned maintenance turnarounds, many external contractors work 12-hour shifts for several weeks. Your employer and VAROPreem provide the current schedule, safety induction and site rules.
The area has hotels in central Lysekil, smaller guesthouses and B&Bs, and private houses in Lyse, Brastad and Bro. For a longer stay, a whole house can be practical: you can cook, wash workwear, park where you are staying and rest without hotel corridors or shared spaces.
Central Lysekil has supermarkets, a Systembolaget, restaurants and gyms. For a quiet evening, Stångehuvud nature reserve and Skalhamn harbour are nearby. Opening hours vary with the season, so check before travelling.
Bring workwear that meets your employer's and VAROPreem's safety requirements. Outside work, windproof and waterproof clothing is useful throughout the year. Laundry detergent, sturdy shoes, a thermos and anything you prefer for a longer stay, such as your own pillow and headphones, are also worth packing.
Both cottages have wireless internet, and mobile coverage is generally stable in Lyse and along the road to Brofjorden. We do not promise a particular speed. If connectivity is important for your work, ask before booking and we will go through the setup with you.

The current name is VAROPreem's Lysekil refinery. VARO Energy completed its acquisition of Preem in January 2026 and formed VAROPreem. Preemraff Lysekil is still used in some addresses and by people searching for the site, so this page also mentions the former name.
