This guide is written by local hosts in Lyse, a short drive from the Preemraff gates at Brofjorden. We meet contractors and project workers regularly and have collected what's useful to know before your assignment starts — without trying to compete with Preem's own corporate information.

Preemraff Lysekil sits at Brofjorden, north-west of central Lysekil. From the E6 take the Uddevalla/Lysekil exit and follow signs toward Brofjorden — allow about 1 hour 30 minutes from Gothenburg and 5–6 hours from Stockholm. Parking at the refinery is arranged according to your agreement with Preem and the assignment's safety plan.
From our cottages in Lyse to Brofjorden is at most a 5-minute drive. There is no direct bus between Lyse and the refinery, so a car or shared ride is the practical option. If you stay with us, free parking is included at the cottages.
Shift patterns vary by role and project. During scheduled major maintenance — known in the industry as a 'turnaround' or 'stora stoppet' — many external contractors work 12-hour shifts around the clock for several weeks. For current rules, safety induction and times, contact your employer or Preem's contractor portal.
The most common options we see in the area are hotels in central Lysekil (such as Strand and Stadshotellet), B&Bs around Lysekil, and private rentals in nearby villages such as Lyse, Brastad and Bro. For assignments longer than two weeks, private rentals are usually the most practical: own kitchen, free parking, washing machine and a quiet place to come home to after a 12-hour shift.
Central Lysekil has groceries (ICA, Coop), a Systembolaget (state liquor store) and several restaurants — Brygghuset in Fiskebäckskil is a year-round local classic. There are gyms in Lysekil; check chains like Friskis & Svettis for current opening hours. To wind down, walks at Stångehuvud nature reserve or Skälhamn harbour are popular. Systembolaget hours vary by store — check systembolaget.se before driving over.
Workwear per your employer's and Preem's safety requirements. Beyond that we recommend: windproof and waterproof outerwear (the Bohuslän coast is windy year-round), sturdy shoes for walks on rocks, your own pillow if you prefer one, laundry detergent (we have washing machines but not always detergent), a thermos for coffee breaks, and good headphones — calls home become a daily routine on long assignments.
Mobile coverage is generally stable for the major Swedish operators across the Lyse area and the road toward Brofjorden. Internet at our cottages is delivered via a 5G router — we don't promise a specific speed, but in practice it's fine for video calls, remote work and streaming. Mobile signal can degrade in more remote parts of the surrounding nature reserves.

The nearest emergency hospital is NU-sjukvården's NÄL in Trollhättan. Public and private dentists, pharmacies and taxi services exist in Lysekil; search the relevant company or directory for current numbers and opening hours.
Preemraff Lysekil is operated by Preem AB and is one of Scandinavia's largest oil refineries, located at Brofjorden. The Preem group's ownership structure and branding changed during 2024–2025.
